Weather Seal Replacement
If you are here because your weather seal has seen better days, then you are in the right place. Bay Area Overhead Door Co. is your team of professionals to help you get your weather seal replacement. We want to make sure your garage stays dry!
What Is a Weather Seal?
Garage doors come with weather seals on the bottom of the door to help keep out dirt, debris, small animals, the weather, and water. In colder regions, some people choose to add to that to further secure their garage from the elements. We are able to add or replace many types of seals such as:
- Bulb Seals
- Beaded Seals
- Thermal Seals
Most seals come in vinyl rubber material and can be added around the garage door for an extra layer of protection. If you live in a cold region or if you are wanting to convert your garage to a workspace, then we also offer thermal seals. We also recommend, in conjunction with thermal seals, to add a seal to the garage floor to form a tight seal between the door and floor.
How Do I Know If I Need A Weather Seal Replacement?
Weather seals take the brunt of the beatings on your garage door. If you try to close your door, but there is something in the way, that item could damage your seal. They also rest on your garage floor and are exposed to chemicals and other things from your garage.
We have even seen seals that have been chewed on by animals. Over time, your seal gets worn down and starts falling apart. If you start seeing puddles of water on your garage floor or if dirt gets blown in even though your door is shut, these are good indicators that your seal is due for replacement.
Are You Converting Your Garage to an Office?
A common trend we are seeing as more people are starting to work from home is that they are converting their garages to workspaces. People insulate the walls and even upgrade their doors to an insulated one but you can’t forget that extra protection from your seal. All of your insulation efforts will be for nothing if the weather can get in under your door.
Do You Want to Replace the Seal Yourself?
If you are a pretty handy person, then you might just want to replace the seal yourself. Here are some of our tips:
- Use this time to also scrape off any rust from the bottom of the track and then paint with spray paint that is specially formulated to bond to rust
- Don’t forget to also replace any trim that is starting to rot. Rotting wood can also let in the elements
- If you live in a cold area, replace your seal with a silicone seal that is specially made for cold weather areas. This will ensure it doesn’t crack when temperatures drop below 0
